Lucia Nimcová lives and works in Brussels and Humenné and studied at the Rijksacademy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her artistic work area includes photography and video.
“I have been working on the Khroniky project since 2014. The project has given birth to an archive containing many photographs from the Ukrainian, Polish and Slovakian border area. These photographs reflect development and continuity, new beginnings and standstills. A pair of workman’s trousers lying on the floor tells of the efforts of those who pick berries, here in the mountains of the border region. Doctors, musicians, soldiers and many others try to earn their living in this manner. They work for foreign companies and meagre wages.”
Nimcovás works were shown i.a. in: MUDAM, Luxembourg; National Library, Riga; The 8th Floor, New York; Krokus Gallery, Bratislava; Albumarte, Rom; BOZAR, Brussels; Galeria Arsenal, Bialystok; Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam; Prague Biennale and Bunkier Sztuki, Krakau.
Nimcová is awardee of the Images Vevey Photography Prize (Switzerland), ECB Photography Award (Germany), Oskar Cepan Award (Slovakia), Leica Oskar Barnack Award (Germany) and Baume & Mercier Award (Italy).
