„The victory of the Defeated“
“As readers of the news, we are witnesses to the war, but we hardly see the people who do not abide by its rules. My work aims to counteract media images of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, which mostly dramatize its violence and too seldom portray the experiences of everyday life in a war zone. Military activity is missing from my photos. Instead, they focus on miners and their work situation, like the man, smoking, from Donbas, an industrial region on the frontlines. I want to tell a story about how people who might appear to be the losers in this conflict are able to find means of resistance, without resorting to weapons.”
Belorusets took part in numerous international exhibitions, but also in her home country. Her work at the Ukrainian Pavillon at the Biennale in Venice 2015 caused a sensation internationally.
